"Amaruka satakam" a classicial treatise on the Hindu art of love is respected among the scholars as an an authoritative text by the ancient Hindu sage Adi Sankaracharya. I have no intention to go into its background. Scholars' obsession with its literal meaning and interpretation as an erotic text, ignoring its inner meaning in the spiritual context does no justice to the highly revered sage, Sankaracharya. Some people even wonder how a bachelor as the sage was, could gain such an excellent knowledge about the intimate man woman relations to write an paralleled treatise on love. Sankaracharya never expected people to renounce domesticity and embrace an ascetic'life.the treatise in its inner meaning strengthens the bond between husband and wife, a central concept in the Hindu way of life. It is a misconception that these Sanskrit slokas are intended as religous hymns to describe gods or goddesses.
